How do the top AI SEO services compare?
AI SEO services fall into five types: a one-off check, done-for-you agency work, AI visibility tracking software, AI content tools, and training your own team. They differ in who does the work, what you get and what it costs. Most small businesses need fixes and pages first; tracking software and content tools come later, if at all.

Five types of AI SEO service
"AI SEO services" covers very different things, from a single audit to software subscriptions. Comparing two providers only makes sense once you know which type each one is selling. These are the five you will meet.
| Type | What you get | Best for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| One-off AI SEO check | A written review of your site with a fix order | Businesses with a developer who can make the changes | Stops at advice; nothing changes unless someone acts on it |
| Done-for-you agency work | Fixes, new pages and monthly reporting by the agency | Businesses without the time or skills in-house | Quality varies widely; needs a clear written scope |
| AI visibility tracking software | Dashboards of how often AI engines mention your brand | Brands that already have someone to act on the data | Measures the problem without fixing it |
| AI content tools | Drafts of pages and articles at speed | Teams that will fact-check and edit every page | Volume without review risks Google's spam policies |
| Training your own team | Workshops or coaching so staff can do the work | Businesses with a marketer who has time to learn | Slow to show results; depends on one person |
A one-off check tells you what to fix
A check reviews your site the way search engines and AI crawlers see it: what they can reach, what they understand about the business, and which questions the pages answer. The output is a written fix order. It is the cheapest way to find out whether you need anything more, and it is useful on its own if you have a developer who can act on it.
Its limit is obvious: a report changes nothing by itself. Ask whether the check covers AI search crawlers, structured data and what AI engines currently say about your category, or only the usual technical SEO items.
Agency work fixes and builds
An agency makes the changes itself: crawl access, structured data, titles and descriptions, business details, and new pages that answer customers' questions. It reports each month on searches, rankings and AI mentions. This is the most complete option and the one where provider quality varies most. Our guide on choosing an AI SEO agency lists the checks to run before you sign.
Tracking software measures mentions
AI visibility tools run prompts through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI features on a schedule and record whether your brand appears and which sites are cited. That is useful data. It does not fix anything, and the results swing from run to run because AI answers vary. For a single-location business, a monthly manual check usually tells you as much.
Content tools write faster, not better
AI writing tools produce drafts quickly. Google allows AI-assisted content, but it warns that generating many pages without adding value for users may breach its spam policy on scaled content abuse, and it recommends fact-checking everything before publishing (Google Search Central). A content tool is a good assistant for someone who knows the subject. On its own it is a quick route to pages nobody quotes.
Training builds the skill in-house
Workshops and coaching suit a business with a marketer who has time to learn and a website they can edit. The cost is mostly staff time, and results arrive more slowly than with an agency. In Australia, some government programmes cover digital marketing training for small businesses; our location pages list the ones we have confirmed for each state.
How to compare two providers of the same type
- Ask what exactly changes on your site in the first month.
- Ask who writes and who approves each page.
- Ask which AI engines they check, how often, and what the report shows.
- Ask whether you keep every page, setting and piece of structured data if you stop.
- Ask for results you can verify, with a client you can contact.
Price comes last, because the scope behind two similar prices can differ widely. Our guide to what AI SEO costs explains what drives the difference.
Which type suits most small businesses
For a local or small business, the order that usually makes sense is a check first, then fixes and a handful of strong service pages, then monthly measurement. Tracking software and bulk content tools come later, if at all. That is the order we follow in our AI SEO services.
Questions
-
What is the difference between AI SEO and generative engine optimisation?
Mostly the name. Generative engine optimisation (GEO), answer engine optimisation (AEO) and AI SEO all describe making a business easy for AI answer engines to find, understand and quote. Compare providers on what they actually do, not on which label they use.
-
Do we need AI visibility software as well as an agency?
Usually not at the start. A good agency reports what the main AI engines say about you each month. Dedicated tracking software earns its cost when you have many products or locations and someone whose job is to act on the data.
-
Which AI SEO service shows results fastest?
Technical fixes, such as crawl access, structured data and page titles, tend to show first because they apply across the whole site. New pages take longer to be crawled, indexed and trusted. Be wary of any provider that promises a date.
